Anastacia Apalat lives in Got Osimbo village, Ugunja Constituency, Siaya County. She got married to Stephen Omondi, a tailor, in 2017.
Together they are blessed with three children.
Before joining MACODEP, Anastacia relied on her husband to provide almost everything for the family.
When she became a MACODEP member, she took a loan of Ksh2,000 ($18.25) and bought three hens, a cock and chicken feed. The poultry project has proved fruitful, and she now has 25 chickens. Today, she sells chicken and eggs to her neighbours and the local community to supplement her income.
Before she took up a loan, Anastacia practiced horticulture farming on a small scale and would sell the produce from the farm to enable her make a weekly saving.
Her life then was a struggle, and her family could barely afford to put food on the table. With the poultry project, she is now able to provide for her family three meals a day. She has managed to pay her children’s school fees, and even cleared the arrears.
Together with her family, they plan to expand the project by building a decent structure for the poultry in a bid to become large scale suppliers of eggs and chicken to institutions in Ugunja Constituency. The family is also planning to venture into dairy farming.
