Gaodensia Anyango, 50 years old lives in Got Osimbo village, Ugunja Constituency, Siaya County. She got married in 1983 and lost her husband in 2008.
Together they were blessed with 10 children. Unfortunately, five have since died.
The couple’s life before joining MACODEP was lowly because Gaodensia was a drunkard and was regarded as a hopeless woman who could not afford much, she even had to beg for salt.
She took a loan of Ksh2, 000 ($18.25) and set up a small semi-permanent structure and put up a shop that has since kept her busy. She has no time to visit drinking dens.
Gaodensia did manual work like ploughing, planting, weeding, harvesting washing clothes in her neighborhood to earn money, some of which she saved.
Today, the family can have three meals a day because the shop had been generating good income. The widow no longer drinks.
The mother finally has peace of mind and receives respect from the community.
Her family’s dream is to buy more stock for the shop and rebuilt it because when it rains she is forced to close due to leakage. Gaodensia is also looking forward to being trained on entrepreneurship skills. Her other plan is to venture into poultry and dairy farming on a large scale.
